SPF – Acronym for Sun Protection Factor – associated with a numerical indication indicates the ability of the sunscreen to reduce the absorption of UVA and UVB rays.

The SPF value is calculated by comparing the amount of time needed to produce a sunburn on skin protected with a filter and without a filter. Exposure times are extremely subjective and can vary due to multiple factors such as phototype, intensity of the sun's rays, sweating, frequency of bathing at the beach, etc.
